DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD IN AMERICAN CANYON ON DAY 1 (Initial\, 
 Renewal\, and Modification Students) and RICHMOND ON DAY 2 (Initial and Mo
 dification Students).  Exact addresses will be given to registered studen
 ts.\n\nThe Defensive Handgun II class often meets the requirements for obt
 aining a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit in many CA jurisdictions\, as
  well as in a number of other states. Through a combination of classroom a
 nd range training over two days (16 hours)\, we will cover the knowledge a
 nd skills required to carry a firearm for personal protection outside the 
 home\, in compliance with California law. \n\nWe follow the NRA Personal 
 Protection Outside the Home (PPOH) Course. Upon completing the class\, you
  will receive a certificate from 29 Outdoor Gear\, a full-service FFL gun 
 store and approved training provider for Napa\, Solano\, Contra Costa\, an
 d San Francisco Sheriff's Departments\, and City of Napa\, Central Marin\,
  Novato\, Mill Valley\, Town of Ross\, City of Winters\, Martinez\, and Sa
 n Francisco Police Departments. Several other law enforcement agencies rec
 ognize our CCW training as well\, such as the Sacramento\, Yolo\, Alameda 
 County Sheriff's Departments and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. As
 k the agency you are applying to if our training course will meet their re
 quirements. Our instructors are\, at minimum\, CA DOJ CCW Instructor crede
 ntialed\, and many hold multiple credentials such as NRA\, DOJ\, BSIS\, PO
 ST\, and USCCA. Threat Scenarios is the training division of 29 Outdoor Ge
 ar\, LLC located in American Canyon. \n\n8-Hours Classroom Day:\n\nStuden
 ts will learn:\n*Firearm Safety\, Firearm Handling\, Shooting Technique\;\
 n*Safe Storage\; Legal Methods to Transport Firearms\; Legal Storage of Fi
 rearms in Vehicle\;\n*Laws Governing where CCW Permitholders may carry fir
 earms\;\n*Laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm\;\n*Laws regardi
 ng he permissible use of lethal force in self-defense\;\n*Mental Health &a
 mp\; Mental Health Resources\;\n*Ethical responsibility\, defensive mindse
 t/awareness\, and how to avoid\, respond to and control an encounter\;\n*L
 egal considerations including proportionate use of force\, CCW insurance\,
  and the aftermath of a shooting\;\n*Firearm/holster selection\, and good 
 habits such as scanning and assessing the environment.\nA written exam wil
 l be administered at the end of the day to assess the student's knowledge 
 of the material.\n\nRENEWAL STUDENTS will be on the range on Day 1\, then 
 join the other students in the classroom for the legal lecture\, mental he
 alth lecture\, and written exam.\n\n8-Hours Range Day: \n\nWhile emphasiz
 ing safety\, students will learn:\n*Firearm Safety\, Firearm Handling\, Sh
 ooting Technique\;\n*Improve draw\, accuracy\, speed\, and target acquisit
 ion skills (including point shooting)\;\n*Move to\, use\, and shoot from b
 ehind cover\;\n*Practice response drills (left\, right\, rear)\, and reten
 tion shots.\n\nThe Defensive Handgun series is designed to take students f
 rom static line shooting into applying their skills in a real world enviro
 nment.  Through the supervision of our instructors\, you will learn how t
 o fight back with a firearm while under stress.\n\nThe sequence of the day
 s may fluctuate. For this particular class\, INITIAL APPLICANT STUDENTS wi
 ll be on the range the second day and in the classroom on the first day. R
 ENEWAL STUDENTS will be in the classroom on the first day\, and then on th
 e range the second half of the first day.  The classroom portion is prese
 ntly scheduled to occur in American Canyon\, CA (Napa County) - the exact 
 address will be provided to registered students approximately 2 weeks befo
 re class.\nIf there are any changes\, we will notify registered students A
 SAP. \n\n\nPrerequisites:\n\nThe student should have a working knowledge 
 of handguns\, their safe handling\, and some experience. Due to the high i
 nstructor-to-student ratio\, we often are able to adapt to those with litt
 le or no experience\, but we encourage you to obtain some basic skills bef
 ore taking this class. Students who do not demonstrate an adequate level o
 f safety or comprehension of the class material may be invited to return t
 o a later class after completing some additional training.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nW
 hat to Bring: \n\nGear: Ear protection (electronic is preferred)\, eye pr
 otection (wrap around glasses or glasses with some form of side protection
  preferred)\; athletic shoes\, boots\, or cleats.\nWe shoot outdoors so ch
 eck the weather and dress accordingly. Class will proceed rain or shine\, 
 unless the conditions become unsafe.\n\nFirearm: Reliable semi-automatic h
 andgun or revolver with three or more magazines (or speed loaders for revo
 lvers).\n\nMany agencies are now allowing more than 3 guns to be listed on
  your permit (Solano Sheriff = 6\, Napa Sheriff and Napa Police = 5). You 
 WILL have to shoot and attempt to qualify with EACH GUN you want listed on
  your permit. ** Due to time constraints\, all students will have the oppo
 rtunity to qualify with at least 3 guns. Additional guns may be attempted 
 if time allows\; if not\, students will need to make arrangements to retur
 n to attempt to qualify with their other guns. See staff for more informat
 ion. **\n\nHolster: A rigid OUTSIDE THE WAISTBAND holster that does not co
 llapse when the firearm is removed\, and at least two magazine or speed lo
 ader pouches. Holsters must be worn on the hip or thigh on the strong side
 \; and magazine holders must be worn on the belt. Serpa-type holsters with
  a release button that must be activated by the user's trigger finger are 
 NOT allowed. "Universal"-type holsters that are not specific to the firear
 m are NOT allowed. \n\nAmmo: At least 500 rounds for the various drills w
 e fire during class (assuming 3 guns\; add at least 100 rounds for each ad
 ditional gun beyond 3).  You will need 100 rounds per handgun for the qua
 lification test\; you must shoot and qualify with each gun you want listed
  on your permit\, and you're allowed to shoot it twice per gun for a passi
 ng score (the qualification course of fire is 50 rounds). The remaining ba
 lance of the rounds will be used for the various drills we shoot throughou
 t class\, to assess the student's safety\, competency\, gun handling\, and
  marksmanship. Regarding ammo - more is less. When in doubt\, bring more.
  \n\nPersonal: Bring your own lunch on both days (there will be a 30 minu
 te break - the lunch break during the classroom day is typically a "workin
 g lunch"). There is not enough time to leave and return. Cold water will b
 e provided.\nClosed-toe shoes and long pants are required\; lightweight lo
 ng sleeve shirts are encouraged\; a hat is recommended.\n\nMODIFICATION ST
 UDENTS - those that are only qualifying with gun(s) to add to their existi
 ng permit:\nRegister for the appropriate session/ticket\, and we will be i
 n touch regarding scheduling.\n\nFor those that want to take either the cl
 ass (or range day portion) without applying for a CCW\, rental firearm pac
 kages are available\, if needed. Each package contains a modern\, reliable
  handgun such as a Glock\, three magazines\, electronic ear protection\, s
 afety glasses\, and loading assistance device. The rental package is $45 f
