Through a combination of classro om and range training over two days\, we will cover the knowledge and skil ls required to carry a firearm for personal protection outside the home.\n \nWe follow the NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOH) Course. Up on completing the class\, you will receive a certificate from 29 Outdoor G ear\, a full-service FFL gun store and approved training provider for Napa \, Solano\, and Sonoma County Sheriff's Departments\, and City of Napa Pol ice Department. Several other law enforcement agencies recognize our CCW t raining as well - ask the agency you are applying to if our training cours e will meet their requirements. Threat Scenarios is the training division of 29 Outdoor Gear. \n\nDay 1 (8-Hours Classroom):\n\nStudents will:\n*Le arn ethical responsibility\, defensive mindset/awareness\, and how to avoi d\, respond to and control an encounter.\n*Discuss legal considerations in cluding proportionate use of force\, CCW insurance\, and the aftermath of a shooting.\n*Prepare a plan including firearm/holster selection\, and goo d habits such as scanning and assessing the environment.\n\nDay 2 (8-Hours Range):\n\nWhile emphasizing safety\, students will:\n*Improve draw\, acc uracy\, speed shooting\, and target acquisition skills (including point sh ooting).\n*Move to\, use\, and shoot from behind cover.\n*Practice respons e drills (left\, right\, rear)\, and retention shots.\n\nThe Defensive Han dgun series is designed to take students from static line shooting into ap plying their skills in a real world environment.  Through the supervision of our instructors\, you will learn how to fight back with a firearm whil e under stress.\n\nPrerequisites:\n\nIdeally\, the student should have a w orking knowledge of handguns\, their safe handling\, and some experience. However\, due to the high instructor-to-student ratio and small class size \, we often are able to adapt to those with little or no experience. Stude nts who do not demonstrate an adequate level of safety or comprehension of the class material may be invited to return to a later class after comple ting some additional training.\n\nWhat to Bring:\n\nGear: Ear protection ( electronic is preferred)\, eye protection (wrap around glasses or glasses with some form of side protection preferred)\; athletic shoes\, boots\, or cleats.\nWe shoot outdoors so check the weather and dress accordingly. Cl ass will proceed rain or shine\, unless the conditions become unsafe.\n\nF irearm: Reliable semi-automatic handgun or revolver with three or more mag azines (or speed loaders\, for revolvers). \n\nHolster: A rigid OUTSIDE TH E WAISTBAND holster that does not collapse when the firearm is removed\, a nd at least two magazine or speed loader pouches. Holsters must be worn on the hip or thigh on the strong side\; and magazine holders must be worn o n the belt. Serpa-type holsters with a release button that must be activat ed by the user's trigger finger are not allowed. \n\nAmmo: At least 350 r ounds for the various drills we fire during class.  Additionally\, you w ill need 100 rounds per handgun for the qualification test\; you must shoo t and qualify with each gun you want listed on your permit\, and you're al lowed to shoot it twice per gun for a passing score (the qualification cou rse of fire is 50 rounds). Some people shoot/reload faster than others. Ho w much ammunition you want to use is up to you.\n\nPersonal: Bring your ow n lunch (there will be a 30 minute break). There is not enough time to lea ve and return. Cold water will be provided.\nClosed-toe shoes and long pan ts are required\; lightweight long sleeve shirts are encouraged\; a hat is recommended.\n\n \;\n\nFor those that want to take either the class ( or range day portion) without applying for a CCW\, rental firearm packages are available. Each package contains a modern\, reliable handgun such as a Glock\, three magazines\, electronic ear protection\, safety glasses\, a nd speed loader. The rental package is $45 for the day. It is accessible from I-80 or I-505. A portion is open to the public\; we will be on the non-public side.\nRegi stered students will receive an email from staff about 1 week prior to cla ss with many details.\nWe will start at 9am sharp and continue to around 5 pm.
