The Combined First Steps and Basic Pistol class is designed for students who are complete beginners to the principles of safely handling, maintaining, and firing a handgun. Over the course of an eight hour day, our friendly and professional instructors will combine classroom and range time to establish good habits and proper fundamentals such as:
*Range and home safety rules.
*Proper procedure for loading/unloading, cleaning, storage, and transportation of a firearm/ammunition.
*Basics of sight alignment, as well as grip, stance, breathing, and trigger control.
*Refinement of accuracy, and how to self-improve when shooting groups at various distances.
*Alternative firing positions.
*Rapid fire for those who are ready.
This program has at its core a time-tested NRA certified curriculum, and will serve to establish a solid groundwork of technique and knowledge for new or prospective handgun owners.
Prerequisites:
All students must be legally able to possess a firearm in the State of California.
What to Bring:
Gear: Ear protection (electronic required), eye protection (wrap around glasses or glasses with some form of side protection preferred). Athletic shoes. This is an outdoor range so check the weather and dress accordingly. We run rain or shine.
Firearm: Bring a reliable semi-automatic handgun or revolver and at least 300 rounds of ammunition.
Rental firearm packages are available. Each package contains a modern, reliable handgun such as a Glock, in either .22 or 9mm caliber; three magazines; electronic ear protection; safety glasses; and a speed loader. Ammo is NOT included. The rental package is $50.00 for the day. If you would like to reserve a rental package, please select the handgun rental below. Depending on supply, ammo may be available for students to purchase at class. However, whenever possible, students should purchase sufficient ammo prior to class. Our parent company, 29 Outdoor Gear, in American Canyon, is a great resource for ammunition – tell the store associates you are taking a Threat Scenarios class.
One of our staff members will provide more details about the class in a confirmation email that will be sent approximately 1-2 weeks before the class date.
Personal: Bring your own lunch – there is not sufficient time to leave and return. Snacks and water will be provided.
Students may retire before 5pm and are welcome to leave at any time. It’s better to quit early than to practice while making mistakes due to fatigue.
