This class is intended for current CCW holders, and ideal for those who have held a permit for 1 year or more, although all students are welcome to attend.

Discussion will include issues and concerns students have encountered while carrying, with suggestions, tips, and pointers given by staff. Topics will cover proper carry of a concealed handgun, proper drawing and holstering while wearing cover garments, firearm and holster placement while standing, walking, seated, bending, reaching, etc. to maintain concealment of their handgun.

While emphasizing safety, students will:
* Participate in drills to improve draw, accuracy, speed shooting, and target acquisition skills (including point shooting);
* Shoot from standing, kneeling, sitting, and from the ground;
* Discuss defensive mindset/awareness, prepare a plan including firearm/holster selection, and good habits such as scanning and assessing the environment;
* Practice threat response drills, and retention shots;
* If time permits, limited movement drills with both dry practice and live fire including moving to, using, and shooting from behind cover.

Drills will be conducted during dry practice and live fire.

Students should bring their most commonly carried handgun and concealed holster they most often use – IWB and appendix are OK, Serpa-type holsters are not allowed; at least two different types of concealment garments – 1 open-front (button or zipper) and 1 closed-front (t-shirt or similar)
[Multiple handguns, requiring changing of holsters and or carry configurations, or differing calibers, are not recommended]

** This class WILL NOT satisfy CCW renewal training requirements, and DOES NOT include a qualification course of fire. **

The Defensive Handgun series is designed to take students from static line shooting into applying their skills in a real world environment.  Through the supervision of our instructors, you will learn how to fight back with a firearm while under stress.

Prerequisites:

The student should have a working knowledge of their handguns, their safe handling, and some experience beyond their initial CCW training course. Due to the high instructor-to-student ratio and small class size, we often are able to adapt to those with little or no experience however, students who do not possess safe equipment or demonstrate an adequate level of safety or comprehension of the class material may be invited to return to a later class after completing some additional training.

What to Bring:

Gear: Ear protection (electronic is required), eye protection (wrap around glasses or glasses with some form of side protection preferred); athletic shoes, boots, or cleats; a lightweight long-sleeve shirt is recommended. A hat is recommended. Shorts and open-toed shoes are prohibited.

We shoot outdoors so check the weather and dress accordingly. Class will proceed rain or shine, unless the conditions become unsafe.

Firearm: Reliable semi-automatic handgun or revolver with three or more magazines (or speed loaders, for revolvers).

Holster: A rigid holster that does not collapse when the firearm is removed, and at least two magazine or speed loader pouches. Holsters should be worn on the hip on the strong side or appendix; and magazine holders must be worn on the belt. Cross-draw holsters are not recommended.

Ammo: At least 300 rounds for the various drills we fire during class.

Personal: Bring your own light lunch (there will be a brief break/opportunity to eat). There is not enough time to leave and return as there are no food vendors in close proximity. Cold water will be provided.
