This is the regular First Steps Basic Pistol class as described below, but intended for Mom and child (youth* or adult) to enjoy a day on the range together in celebration of Mom. Special Mother’s Day treats for Mom will be on hand, and each Mom will receive a small gift.
When registering, list BOTH participants names on the ‘Name’ line.
*Youth is anyone under 18. There is no minimum age limit, however we recommend the child be able to follow directions and pay attention for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.
Must register and pay together in order to obtain the special discount,
or Mom must already be registered if additional child is registering on single ticket.
The Combined First Steps and Basic Pistol class is designed for students who are complete beginners to the principles of safely handling, maintaining, and firing a handgun, or those who want a refresher. Over the course of an eight hour day, our friendly instructors will combine classroom and range time to establish good habits and proper fundamentals such as:
*Range and home safety rules.
*Proper procedure for loading/unloading, cleaning, storage, and transportation of a firearm/ammunition.
*Basics of sight alignment, as well as grip, stance, breathing, and trigger control.
*Refinement of accuracy, and how to self-improve when shooting groups at various distances.
*Alternative firing positions.
*Rapid fire for those who are ready.
This program has at its core a time-tested NRA certified curriculum, and will serve to establish a solid groundwork of technique and knowledge for new or prospective handgun owners.
Prerequisites:
All students must be legally able to possess a firearm in the State of California.
What to Bring:
Gear: Ear protection (plugs or muffs, electronic ear protection is preferred), eye protection (wrap around glasses or glasses with some form of side protection preferred). Athletic shoes. We use an outdoor facility so check the weather and dress accordingly. We train rain or shine.
Firearm: Bring a reliable semi-automatic handgun or revolver and at least 200 rounds of ammunition.
Rental firearm packages are available. Each package contains a modern, reliable handgun such as a Glock, most of which are 9mm caliber; three magazines; electronic ear protection; safety glasses; and a speed loader. Ammo is NOT included in our standard rental kits. The rental package is $45 for the day. We do have rental kits that include ammo – these are .22 caliber semi-auto handguns and include 200 rounds of .22 ammo.

Depending on supply, ammo may be available for students to purchase at class – price is dependent upon current market value.
One of our staff members will provide more details about the class, exact location, and ammo, in a confirmation email that will be sent approximately 1 week before the class date.
Personal: Bring your own lunch (there will be a 45 minute break). We are short driving distance from several restaurants. Snacks and water will be provided.
Where to Go:
We will be using the Hillside Private Property, which is located a short drive from central American Canyon. It is not open to the public, and its exact location will only be disclosed to students of the class. We will start at 9am sharp and continue to around 4pm. Please try to arrive 15 minutes before the class starts.
Students may retire before 4pm and are welcome to leave at any time. It’s better to quit early than to practice making mistakes due to fatigue.
CLASS COST: $215.00 for Mom + 1;
additional + 1 = $75.00 each (must be accompanying Mom);
